Michael-Self-300-Pixels2LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ (4-14-12) – After competing on the biggest track in the series last month in Phoenix, Utah’s Michael Self and the Richard Childress Racing Development Golden Gate Racing Team return the sunny state again this weekend for one of the shortest tracks on the 2012 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West venue, the quarter mile Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. This event will mark the first time that NASCAR’s regional series competes at the popular city for the NAPA Auto Parts 150.

Saturday’s event is the second of 15 events on the 2012 NASCAR Schedule for the Golden Gate Racing Team. Self will be behind the wheel of the competitive #21 Chevrolet that will carry the sponsorship of Bay Bio Diesel and Richard Childress Racing. In addition to the K&N Pro Series West event, GGRT/RCR will also be fielding their Late Model in competition at Havasu over the weekend with Bobby Runyan behind the wheel of that machine.

After an 18th place finish in Phoenix, Self enters Saturday’s race 18th in the NASCAR Pro Series West point standings. The Park City Utah driver has a great deal of short track experience in both Late Model and NASCAR West competition and is looking forward to the series debut at Havasu.

“I’m excited to get back to some short track racing,” said Self. “We’ve made a lot of changes and a big push with our short track program, that I’m really confident with. Havasu 95 is small but its going to make for some great racing. I got the chance to race a late model there in January and we were really successful and qualified on the pole and finished second so I have a lot of momentum at that track to build on. I’ll also be driving my own late model that night so I am looking forward to a full night of racing and hopefully we can bring home a couple of wins.”

Self has a strong record on the short tracks in his NASCAR racing career. He has nine starts on series tracks that are under a half mile in length and has garnered two top 5’s and 4 top tens on such tracks. His series best finish on short tracks is fourth place. This will mark Self’s 30th NASCAR West start of his career.

While Self is anxious to take to the track at Havasu, the entire Golden Gate Racing Team is eager to take the green flag as well. “Let’s get this season rolling again with some positive results, it’s our turn,” said team owner Jimi Offenbach. Richard Childress is also eager to watch the team make their debut at the new venue, “We should see some positive results in Michael’s driving after attending the Mike Dillon Dirt racing school,” said Childress. “The reports were this kid has talent.”

The Golden Gate Racing Team/RCR Chevrolets carried the sponsorship of Richard Childress Racing Driver Development, Bay Bio Diesel and the Golden Gate Meat Company. Additional associate sponsors that support them are the Richard Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma, RCR Street Performance, Hill Meat Company, Corte Madera Tow, Harraka Racing Equipment Sales, Foodcomm International, Signco, Praxair and JW Web Design.
