Race Weekend Information

Date: Thursday, September 14, 2017

Event: Scott 150

Track: Chicagoland Speedway

Series: ARCA Racing Series Presented by Menards

Watch it: Fox Sports 1, 7:00pm CDT

Driver: Michael Self

Car: No. 88 Sinclair Oil Chevrolet SS

Team: Mason Mitchell Motorsports

Crew Chief: Chad Kendrick

A Look Back: On August 26, Self drove the No. 9 Sinclair Oil Ford to a seventh-place finish in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West event at Douglas County Speedway, in Roseburg, Oregon. Though not the finish Self was looking for, it marked his 13th top-10 in 14 starts between the ARCA Racing Series and K&N Pro Series West this season.

A Look Ahead: On Thursday, Self will return to the ARCA Racing Series at Chicagoland Speedway for the Scott 150. Self will drive the No. 88 for the first time, fielded by Mason Mitchell Motorsports, with the recognizable Sinclair Oil “Dino Car” livery on board. Self has competed in two other ARCA events with MMM this season, at Pocono and Iowa Speedway where he finished third and fourth, respectively. Self has one career start at the 1.5-mile intermediate speedway in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2015, in which he finished 25th, driving for Johnny Davis Motorsports. Self and his primary partner, Sinclair Oil, added the Chicagoland event to their schedule just two weeks ago.

Self on Chicagoland: “I was really excited when we started talking with Sinclair about adding this event to our schedule. I’ve really started to enjoy racing at the bigger tracks, and I have a little experience at Chicagoland, so I’m excited to get on track on Thursday. I had a ton of fun racing with Mason Mitchell Motorsports at Pocono and Iowa, and we were in contention to win both of those races, so hopefully we can pick right back up where we left off.”

Mason Mitchell: “I feel like we’ve raced very well both times that Michael has been behind the wheel in our cars,” owner Mason Mitchell stated. “Hopefully the third time is the charm and we can end in victory lane Thursday evening.”

Car Info: The MMM car Self will be driving is chassis 594. This is the same car Self drove to a third-place finish at Pocono, and a fourth-place finish at Iowa earlier in the year. The chassis won at Kansas Speedway with Mason Mitchell behind the wheel in 2015, and has since been converted into a composite body. The chassis has six prior starts earning one win (Kansas 15) three top-five’s and four top-ten finishes.

About Michael Self: A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Self is an accomplished road racer, four-time Utah State Karting champion, and six-time NASCAR K&N Pro Series winner. Self has made four starts in NASCAR XFINITY Series competition, driving for JD Motorsports. He scored a career-best 11th-place finish at Wisconsin’s Road America in 2015. In 2016, he helped guide Justin Haley to the NKNPSE championship from the spotter’s stand and as a driver’s coach. He returned to driving in the October 2016 ARCA Racing Series Presented by Menards event at Kansas Speedway, where he earned a third-place finish. In 2017, he will be driving the Sinclair Oil No. 28 in select ARCA Racing Series events, as well as the No. 9 Sunrise Ford/Sinclair Oil Ford Fusion in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.
