A Look Ahead: The ARCA Menards Series returns to action this weekend for the 2020 season opener at Daytona International Speedway. Self will kick things off for another full-season effort in a return to the track with the familiar No. 25 Sinclair Oil Toyota colors onboard, though in a slightly different scheme. In three career starts at Daytona, Self has gone to victory lane once, but finished outside the top-15 the other two times, both due to accidents. Self will re-unite with crew chief Kevin Reed for the 2020 season, who was the familiar face on top of the box for Self when the duo won at Daytona and Chicagoland Speedway in 2018.

Self on Daytona: “It’s so hard to put what racing at Daytona is like in to words. Even after competing here three times, it’s probably the most stressful race of the year. The levels of experience at Superspeedways are all over the place, and you have to be completely aware of who you’re around at all times, because your fate can lie in their hands. There’s no other race where you have less control of your own situation than at Daytona, and I think that’s why so many drivers just look to get through this one. Last year I thought we were in a really good spot, but our race was cut short on lap three. That was brutal, but also a big learning experience for me. We had a really fast car at the test and think we found some things that will make it even better since then, so we’ll get down there and see where we stack up in practice and qualifying then make a race plan from there.”

About Michael Self: A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Self is an accomplished road racer, four-time Utah State Karting champion, eight-time NASCAR K&N Pro Series winner, and seven-time ARCA Menards Series winner. Self has made seven starts in NASCAR XFINITY Series competition, driving for JD Motorsports. He scored a career-best 11th-place finish at Wisconsin’s Road America in 2015. In 2016, he helped guide Justin Haley to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship from the spotter’s stand and as a driver’s coach. Self returned to consistent competition in 2017 and finished fourth in the NKNPSW championship standings with two wins, seven top-fives, and 13 top-10’s in 13 starts, as well as one win, and four top-fives in six ARCA Racing Series starts. Self captured his second career ARCA Racing Series victory in the 2018 season opener at Daytona International Speedway. This year, you can catch Self behind the wheel of the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Sinclair Oil Toyota Camry in every ARCA Racing Series event.
